Obamacare Seeks Maturity on Third Birthday

I learned even as a three year old that I see this world as a mess, and I learned to say, this is not me. I am not the one who messed it up.

Tomorrow is Obamacare’s third birthday. President Obama may be saying:  it’s a mess but I had nothing to do with it.   It’s those other guys in Congress,  those 21 state governors, and those others who consider themselves grownups  who refuse to seg up health exchanges.

As the new kid on the healthcare block,  all I want to do is expand coverage for the uninsured, subsidize care for the poor, lower costs, offer free preventive tests, and invent more efficient ways to deliver care.

Instead those so-called grownups  say my law, aptly called Obamacare because I care,  burdens average Americans with  taxes, rules, and fees; is filled with tricks and gimmicks;  is loaded with rosy assumptions about savings;  increases premium costs;  has no costs controls; decreases hiring;  limits  access for the employed because its uncertainties;  and  causes millions of patients and doctors to migrate out of the system out of the reach of third parties,  including  my government.

What do these grownups expect?   I am only three years old,   barely old and big enough to walk and talk and to read those 2700 pages of the law and the 16,000 pages of regulations. At three,  I am still exploring my physical, mental,  emotional, cultural, and political universe. 

Give me a break.  Give me time.  The grownups created this mess.  The grownups will have to clean it up. I am only three.  I am just learning to turn the pages of the health care law and its regulations.  I am just beginning to run and lean forward, to tiptoe around obstacles, to work out partisan puzzles, to throw the ball into the other court, to sort through problems, to speak the language of grownups, to understand when listening to them speak, and to count to a trillion.

On its third birthday,  Obamacare no longer can be considered a Foster and Poster  Child of Government. It is not yet potty-trained.  To mature, it may have  look to the grownups who need, receive, and administer care.
