Is
President Obama Arrogant?
When
power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When
power narrows the areas of man’s concerns, poetry reminds him of the richness
of his existence. When power corrupts,
poetry cleanses, for art establishes the basic human truths that must serve as
the touchstone of or judgment.

Fitzgerald Kennedy (1918-1963), Remarks at Amherst College, October 20,1963

June
22, 2012 - As
the Presidential campaign intensifies and the Supreme Court decision of Obamacare
nears, critics increasingly accuse President Obama of arrogance of Presidential power, and his
attorney general of contempt of Congress.
Is this really the case? Or is it merely partisan sniping?
Is Obama truly “the smartest man in the room” with justifiable
confidence in his own judgment but not in the knowledge of others?
Is Obama right in evoking executive privilege in the “fast
and furious” controversy? Or is he
stonewalling?
Is it right for President Obama to be simultaneously at odds
with the Supreme Court and Congress? Has the balance of power gone askew?
If the constitutionality of Obamacare goes down,
should President Obam make the Court itself a campaign issue? Or would that be construed as an act of
arrogance?
Which leads to this bit of verse
What
is this thing called arrogance?
Is
it an elaborate political dance?
Is
it genuinely executive privilege,
Based
on executive knowledge?
What’s
the line between arrogance and contempt,
Can
one from another be considered exempt?
At
first glance, no one knows in advance.
Tweet: There is fine line between arrogance and contempt when it comes to relationships between the President, the Supreme Court, and Congess.
